McCreary County Water District participates in a rigorous testing and inspection process to help ensure a continued supply of quality water service for McCreary County. Each year, the KY Public Service Commission inspects our facilities and operations. In addition to all of the awards that have been presented to the water district over the years, it is also an honor to pass these inspections with the highest of excellence. In fact, since 1995, McCreary County Water District has received zero (0) deficiencies on its yearly inspections. Below is a list of awards that have been given to McCreary County Water District since 1995.

The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet has named McCreary County Water District as one of forty-nine water treatment plants recognized in the Commonwealth for having demonstrated superior performance while producing drinking water in 2011 that consistently met or exceeded state water quality standards.  The forty-nine systems honored are among one hundred and fifty-five public and private water treatment plants in the state that participated in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Area-Wide Optimization Program (AWOP).  View Award...

2009 – Nominated for Outstanding Plant Operations Award

Presented by: American Water Works Association

The American Water Works Association nominated McCreary County Water District's Treatment Plant B for the 2009 Outstanding Plant Operations Award. The award is given each year to five water treatment plant operation staffs across the Section's territory, broken into three different plant size categories.  There are approximately 498 registered water systems in Kentucky.  Award recipients are determined through a written process and a site visit.  The selection committee for KY/TN AWWA endeavors to recognize those plant operation staffs that have demonstrated exceptional performance in exceeding all Federal Drinking Water Standards and initiative to excel at the business of producing safe water for its customers.


2009 – Nominated for Operator of the Year

Presented by: American Water Works Association

The American Water Works Association nominated McCreary County Water District's Assistant Superintendent Stephen Whitaker for the 2009 Operator of the Year Award.  Less than 2% of Kentucky's 1,285 certified water treatment operators were nominated for the 2009 award.  Nominees are graded through an interview to determine proficiency in areas including management, plant performance and maintenance, knowledge of treatment plant operations and regulations, and Section participation.
